About Us

The Gamecock Chess Club was started in 2014 as a student organization for both chess and go, though we've since shifted to only chess. Our mission is to promote learning, community, and strategic thinking through chess in a friendly and inclusive manner. We have elections each year for leadership (and there is usually turnover since we're a student organization), but we strive to maintain this culture from year to year. We have a large ability range represented, from near-complete beginners to players rated over 2000 USCF. We have over 300 people in our GroupMe, though our events are generally small enough that you can get to know people well. We'd love to have you join us!
